Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship

Duration: 18 months
This Apprenticeship Standard is for those working in the role of a Business Administrator, or those aspiring to be.
The programme promotes the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out below, and apprentices will be supported to apply these to their role to provide excellent, confident, competent and compassionate care to our patients.
The responsibilities of the role are to support and engage with different parts of the organisation and interact with patients, staffs and external contacts.
With a focus on adding value, the role contributes to the efficiency of an organisation through the support of functional areas, working across teams and resolving issues as requested.
A Business Administrator is expected to deliver their responsibilities efficiently and with integrity - showing a positive attitude. The role involves demonstrating strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and adopting a proactive approach to developing skills.
A Business Administrator is also expected to show initiative, managing priorities and their own time, using problem-solving skills and decision-making, and demonstrating the potential for people-management responsibilities through mentoring or coaching others.
Typical day-to-day tasks would include using IT systems and databases, communicating in the business environment, learning to manage administrative services and developing project management skills.

Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship
Delivered by the Practice Development and Education Apprenticeship Team
Duration: 16 months
We offer many learning opportunities, supporting the individual needs of each apprentice, and enabling them to explore and take the next steps on their chosen career pathway.
This might mean arranging days shadowing allied health professionals and other members of the multidisciplinary team or taking part in OUH Apprenticeship Network events. All these opportunities aid the development of valued and brilliant healthcare support workers across the Trust.
Apprentices are employed full-time, on a fixed 16-month contract. They will be employed and managed in a clinical area within one of the Trust's four hospital sites. Learning will take place both on the ward, carrying out tasks and providing direct patient care as delegated by the nursing team, as well as during training and study days in the classroom.
It is the best of both worlds, with support from the clinical team, Apprenticeship Team and other apprentices within the cohort and wider Trust.

Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship
Delivered by the Practice Development and Education Apprenticeship Team
Duration: 18 months delivery / practical learning to gateway and End Point Assessment by 22 months
The Apprenticeship Team is keen to support learners on a programme most suited to their prior experience, education and goals. We do not want anyone to be repeating learning, rather, we support you to travel forwards and upwards.
Level 3 apprentices can be existing staff employed by the Trust, or may be individuals with some health and social care experience or health and social care qualifications such as A levels, who can be employed full-time, on a fixed 18-month contract for the duration of the programme.
They will be employed and managed in a clinical area within one of the Trust's four hospital sites. This apprenticeship standard can currently be supported in-house for staff working in an adult nursing support role.
The programme delivery supports learning both on the ward, carrying out tasks and providing direct patient care as delegated by the nursing team, as well as during training and study days in the classroom.
We offer many learning opportunities, supporting the individual needs of each apprentice, and enabling them to explore and take the next steps on their chosen career pathway.

This apprenticeship can enable progression such as working towards an Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate post or, providing entry requirements are met, application to University to become a registered healthcare practitioner. It really can open exciting door.

Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship
Delivered by the Pharmacy Department
Duration: 15 months
Entry requirements
- Four GCSEs Grade 3 or above
- Good command of English language
- Numerate

The Pharmacy Services Assistant (PSA) works under the supervision of a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician or other accountable healthcare professional.
The PSA provides a variety of pharmacy and medicines services to patients, the public and other professional healthcare teams. The PSA supports the delivery of pharmacy services in a variety of pharmacy environments.
This apprenticeship is delivered in-house by technicians working alongside the apprentice. This makes this apprenticeship ideal for school leavers as it is in a supported environment and delivered in one area, as opposed to the Level 3 which is rotational around the different Pharmacy departments in the trust. This is a good step to progress into a working environment.

Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship

Duration: 18 months

Laboratory Medicine
Tests within a medical laboratory are normally carried out on clinical specimens from patients to gain an insight into the health of the patient and look at diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
In Microbiology over 600,000 samples are processed per year for the presence of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites which may cause a range of diseases, from meningitis to a urine infection. We receive samples from GP practices and within the hospitals of OUH Trust.
An apprenticeship within the laboratory
When you arrive in our medical laboratory, you can expect to be greeted by a member of the training team who will introduce you to the main people in the department where you will be carrying out your work.
Throughout your apprenticeship we will guide you through some of the main processes and procedures we use for the diagnosis of disease in patients.
We will give you full support to complete a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science and the relevant apprenticeship standards.
As part of your role, you will be working as a Laboratory Support Worker and carrying out the duties of the job description. Full training and supervision will be provided.
Duties
- Receiving, unpacking and sorting of specimens
- Data entry on to a Laboratory Information Management System
- Processing of specimens, such as urines, swabs and blood.
- General housekeeping duties
- Running of automated systems
- Safe disposal of waste products
