Walking
Rotating (tactile) cones at traffic light controlled crossings in Oxfordshire
Where two or more controlled pedestrian crossings are close to each other, we are unable to use audible bleepers in support of the 'green man' to indicate when it is safe to cross the road.
Almost all traffic signal controlled crossings in Oxfordshire where a bleeper cannot be used have a tactile cone fitted. These are about the size and shape of a thimble, and located on the underside of push button boxes.
Once you have pressed the button to call the pedestrian phase, just slide your hand across the underneath of the push button box where you will find the cone. Hold it lightly. When the traffic has been shown a red light, and the steady green man is showing, the cone will rotate gently for the same period that a bleeper would have operated. It is, of course, important to remember that cars may still be on the crossing if there are queues. You should use whatever means you have available to try and check that vehicles have stopped and your way is clear.

Important - e-scooters
Voi e-scooters are available within Oxford via the Voi app on the Apple App Store for iPhone.
These e-scooters are not allowed on our hospital sites - they will cut out near the entrances to our hospital sites and will not work on site.
Coach
Oxford Tube coaches operate frequently 24 hours a day to and from central London.
They stop in Headington Centre and at Gipsy Lane, about 15 minutes' walk from the NOC.
Rail
We are three miles from Oxford railway station, with its frequent trains from London (Paddington) and many other parts of the UK.
Please allow at least 15 minutes by taxi from the station forecourt and 30 minutes by bus (take the number 5 or 3 and change to the number 15 at Queens Lane).

Air
Oxford is well placed for airports in London and Birmingham. London Heathrow is about 70 minutes by coach. Coach services to both Heathrow and Gatwick stop in Headington Centre and Gipsy Lane.
