Trainee Nursing Associates

The Nursing Associate is a new role which we believe is fundamental to the nursing family.

Nursing Associate role

A collective of health and social care employers and higher education institutions have come together to support the development of the Nursing Associate role across the Thames Valley.

A Nursing Associate is a new type of professional care worker, with higher skills to assist, support and complement care given by registered nurses.

This Thames Valley Nursing Associate Partnership offers Trainee Nursing Associates a two-year quality education and training programme, both in a university and a practice environment.

The programme is full-time, at academic levels 4 and 5. Trainees spend one day each week at Oxford Brookes University, and undertake nine weeks of clinical placement each year, during which they will receive clinical support and guidance via nominated supervisors.

In training the role is paid at Band 3; on successful completion of the course the role is paid at Band 4.

On completion trainees will be registered as a Nursing Associate by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
