John Radcliffe Hospital West Wing Neuroradiology
The Department of Neuroradiology provides an imaging service for Oxford Neurosciences and Specialist Surgery. We examine the brain and spinal cord (the 'neural axis') and other related areas, such as:
- orbits (the bones around the eyes)
- sinuses
- skull base
- neck.
Our services
General Radiography
Radiography produces images of areas such as the chest, spine and limbs. It can also be used to look at patients who have difficulty swallowing, to show the oesophagus, and children who have problems speaking due to cleft lip and palate abnormalities.

Computed Tomography (CT)
CT is a specialised examination using a combination of X-rays and computer technology to produce cross-sectional and 3D images, allowing a more definitive diagnosis.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRI equipment uses a strong magnetic field and radio frequency to create images of the body. No X-rays or radioactivity is involved. The high field magnet provides fast and accurate clinical imaging.

Angiography
This is a specialised X-ray examination of the blood vessels of the brain and other parts of the body. A 'contrast medium' is injected, to outline blood vessels and render them 'visible' on the X-ray images.

Neuroradiology is based on Level 1, West Wing, John Radcliffe Hospital.
From the West Wing reception desk, take the lift up to Level 1. Turn right out of the lift and go through the double doors, following signs to Neuroradiology.
