Parking charges / concessions

We do charge for most parking at our hospitals. The car parks are run by the Trust and not as a commercial operation. All money raised goes back into patient and visitor services.

Blue Badge parking

John Radcliffe, Churchill and Horton General hospital sites

Parking for Blue Badge holders is free. Car parks are drive in / drive out, with no barriers, but you must register your Blue Badge to your vehicle.

After each registration you may drive in and out of the hospital site for up to six months.

Always display the 'clock' part of the badge clearly in your vehicle.

Blue Badge holders must observe the code of the Blue Badge Scheme.

Three ways to register your Blue Badge

On site

When you arrive on site display the 'clock' part of the badge clearly in your vehicle.

When you leave, take the 'permit' half of your badge to a parking machine.

Follow the instructions on screen - enter your vehicle registration number and scan the bar code on your Blue Badge when asked.

If your route to hospital passes an Oxfordshire County Council temporary congestion charge point it will cost you £5.

All our Oxford sites can be reached without passing a charge point.

Discounted or free parking

Under certain circumstances, patients or visitors may be entitled to discounted or free parking at our hospital sites.

Please ask your ward or contact the Car Parking Offices for guidance.

Regular attendees

Patients who attend regularly and frequently over an extended period are entitled to free parking.

'Regular attendees' are patients attending:

Radiotherapy
Chemotherapy
Renal dialysis
Transplant
Dermatology.

Eligibility is determined by the Ward Manager in accordance with the criteria set out in the Trust's Car Parking Policy and all permits must be signed and dated by the Ward Manager.

John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals

The Ward Clerk or Ward Sister will log your vehicle registration (number plate) by email with the Travel and Transport Team for free parking in Visitor Car Parks during your treatment.

Please make sure that you give the correct vehicle registration number to staff as the exemption applies to the vehicle, not the patient. Therefore, if you come in a different vehicle you will have to register that vehicle. If your treatment extends beyond the time originally allocated, staff must re-register your vehicle.

Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Horton General Hospital

Forms are available from the Ward Clerk or Ward Sister.

The permit allows parking in Visitor Car Parks and should be displayed in the front of the vehicle. You can see the car parks on the hospital site maps.

Visitors to long stay patients

Visitors to, or carers of, long stay patients (four days or more) may purchase a Weekly Parking Permit. This enables parking at any time for seven consecutive days, including the day of issue. Please check with the Car Parking Office regarding the cost of this Permit.

Eligibility is according to the Car Parking Policy. Forms are available from ward staff. Please take the authorised form, along with payment, to the Car Parking Office or the Cashiers Offices.

Concessions for families of very ill patients

The Car Parking Office can also make special arrangements for families of patients in:

Critical Care Unit
Intensive Care Unit
Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Ward staff will complete a Permit Request Form. Please take the form to the Car Parking Office where a special ticket will be issued which will allow you to park in Visitor Car Parks.

Only in exceptional circumstances will more than one permit or ticket be issued per patient visited. The permit can be transferred between cars but must be displayed prominently in the vehicle that is parked at the hospital.
