Welcome to Microbiology

Microbiology is part of the Oxford University Hospitals and based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. We examine over 600,000 samples per year for the presence of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites which may cause a range of diseases from meningitis to urine infections, and work with specialists in infectious diseases and public health, advising on the best use of antibiotics both in hospitals and the community.

The Laboratory is open 24/7 365 days a year.

  • Core opening hours are 8.30am - 5.00pm
  • Late shift 1.30pm - 10.00pm: nightshift 10.00pm - 8.30am
  • Outside of core hours please contact the laboratory via OUH Switchboard: 0300 304 7777
