If you drove yourself to your appointment, you can expect to be able to drive home.

After effects

You may experience:

  • period-like cramps

  • mild lower abdominal discomfort

  • light vaginal bleeding.

These symptoms usually settle after a few days, although bleeding can sometimes continue for about a week. It is best to use sanitary pads rather than tampons.

You can return to normal activities when you feel comfortable, but to reduce the risk of infection avoid baths, swimming and penetrative sex until the bleeding has stopped.

If we take a biopsy

If a biopsy or tissue sample is taken, it will be sent to the laboratory for examination.

The result is usually available after approximately four weeks, and we will usually write to you with the results.
