Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC)

From March 2024, we will be taking part in the national Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) programme.

The service will start in Banbury, before rolling out to other parts of Oxfordshire.

People aged 55 to 74 who smoke, or who have ever smoked, will be invited to complete an electronic questionnaire about their smoking history.

Depending on the results, we will then offer a phone call to discuss their risk factors for lung conditions.

If further risk factors are identified during the phone call, we will offer them a more detailed consultation with a nurse.

This will initially be at the Horton General Hospital, with plans to roll out mobile units in the future.

Where appropriate, we may also offer a scan, and follow up any concerns identified by the scan.

This programme has been developed as part of the NHS Long Term Plan.

This kind of non-symptomatic screenings means that we can detect any issues quickly, which is an important part of successful treatment.
