Amanda Crudgington

05/03/2024

Amanda Crudgington, one of our community midwives at Florence Park Midwives, received a DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional care she provided for a patient who, partway through her pregnancy, found out that her baby would sadly not survive for long after being born.

Emma (name changed) wished for a homebirth like with her previous two babies, as it was important to her that the baby was born at home, surrounded by family.

Amanda immediately jumped into action.  She volunteered to be 'on call' for the family.

Her nominator said:

"Amanda liaised with the team to ensure everything was in place to make the homebirth go smoothly, including input from palliative care and hospice team. She brought her homebirth expertise and experience and applied it to these circumstances to ensure the highest level of individualised care was provided.

"When the time came, Amanda was on annual leave. Despite this, Amanda remained on call and attended Emma's home during the night and stayed with her until her baby was born. Over the coming days (whilst still being on annual leave), Amanda continued to provide face-to-face and remote care, answering Emma's questions at all hours and ensuring she had everything to support her during the most difficult time this family had ever faced.

"Ultimately, thanks to Amanda, Emma and her family were able to spend those precious 4 days together, at home, with minimal interference and 24/7 support from someone she knew and trusted.

"Amanda has made a lasting impact on Emma and her family. She has provided light during their darkest time. She is the epitome of compassionate care.

"In addition, as the team lead, she has led by example to the highest level. However, at no point did she ask her team to also go on call. She did not judge or assume. She led with compassion, giving Emma and her midwifery colleagues individualised care.

"I couldn't ask for a better leader. I am bowled over by the lengths Amanda went to  support this family. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say she has inspired me and her team. I am truly honoured to have her as a midwife working at OUH."

Congratulations Amanda, and thank you for all you do.
