Mel Light

Huge congratulations to Mel Light, one of our Midwives based in Bicester, who has received a DAISY Award for delivering compassionate excellence.

Rebecca Moran nominated Mel following her experience of her first pregnancy.

She said: "I don't make a very happy pregnant person. I didn't feel like I was doing anything right, I always felt I should be overjoyed and full of excitement at all times so, when I felt awful, it was an alien experience I just wanted to end.

"In comes Mel. This lady built me up from the ground, talking me through everything and showing me that it was all right to feel down now and again.

"She made time for me whenever I needed an appointment. She always made sure she listened, gave me lots of pick-me-up chats and was my greatest cheerleader from the start."

Rebecca was initially cared for at the Wantage Midwifery-led Unit (MLU) but was transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital. Mel continued to look after her.

Rebecca said: "With Mel by my side, I just knew I would be advocated for and my wishes would be heard...she was a beam of warming sunlight.

"I can't ever get across in words how much this lady did for us from day one."

Rebecca's baby boy was born via caesarean and, despite living in Essex, both were present for Mel's presentation, which was led by Paula Gardner, our Interim Chief Nursing Officer.

Rebecca added: "I have honestly never met someone with such a work ethic, with such a passion for her job. She is a great asset to the John Radcliffe and to Bicester."

Congratulations, Mel, and thank you for all that you do.
