30 years of education celebrated at Sobell House

This article is more than five years old.

2018 marks the 30th anniversary of the delivery of education at Sobell House Hospice, and staff celebrated in the best way - with a party and cake.

Dr Robert Twycross established a study centre in 1988 to deliver palliative care education to healthcare professionals around the world.

Now called the Oxford Centre for Education and Research in Palliative Care (OxCERPC), the group is going from strength to strength after gaining independent charity status and setting its sights on growth.

The study centre, based at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford, delivers its programme through specialist staff working at Sobell House and external teachers.

The group, led by Dr Mary Miller (Consultant in Palliative care) and Kate Butcher (Registered Nurse), plans to grow in size and scope with the support of the wider Sobell House charity.

This year's focus for OxCERPC, which has a valued team of volunteers who help out, is on developing its suite of Communications Skills courses and its links with Marymount Hospice in Cork.

There are also plans to host study days and conferences each year in response to bespoke requests, feedback and national guidance.
