Alison Cuthbertson has been appointed as the new Director of Midwifery at Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) NHS Foundation Trust.

Alison, who is a Registered General Nurse and a Registered Midwife, is currently Head of Midwifery at Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust.

Alison says: "I am really pleased to be joining the team at OUH. I am looking forward to using the skills and experience which I have gained during my career to date in my new role as Director of Midwifery.

"OUH has huge strengths as a major provider of maternity services to women living in not only Oxfordshire but also neighbouring counties including Warwickshire and Northamptonshire who rely on our units.

"It will be a privilege to lead a talented team of midwives at OUH who care for women not only in hospital settings but also in a number of midwife-led units at the heart of the different communities in Oxfordshire. I can't wait to get started!"

Sam Foster, Chief Nursing Officer at OUH, says: "I am delighted that we have appointed Alison as the Trust's new Director of Midwifery and I am sure that all staff will join me in welcoming her when she joins us here at OUH.

"Alison impressed us all at interview where she demonstrated not only her significant lived experience in a range of areas but also her values base which is very much aligned with our Trust values and our aim to provide compassionate and excellent care for all patients and their families."

Alison will be taking up her post on 1 September 2019.
