OUH Audiology head shortlisted for leadership award
Rachel Humphriss, Head of Audiology at Oxford University Hospitals (OUH), was shortlisted in the 'My inspiration: The AHCS Award for the most inspiring leader' category at the Advancing Healthcare Awards 2026.
The Advancing Healthcare Awards celebrate the work of Healthcare Scientists, Allied Health Professionals and those working alongside them across the UK.
Rachel was nominated by a colleague for her leadership of the Oxford University Hospitals Audiology Service. As a Clinical Scientist and Head of Audiology Rachel leads a team of about 45 people over three services - Adult Audiology, Paediatric Audiology and the Auditory Implant Programme.
She has been in the role for over five years, during which time she has led two service transformation projects. One of these - reconfiguring our Paediatric Audiology services, including new facilities at the Horton General Hospital - is still underway.
Most of her role is leadership and management, and she remains clinically active, undertaking clinics in paediatric audiology and in adult balance assessment, often supervising colleagues on formal training programmes.
Rachel's nomination, read out at the awards ceremony on Friday 19 June 2026, cited her "...exceptional leadership and transformation of the service, combining scientific expertise with compassion, clarity and integrity".
Rachel said: "We had a wonderful time at the awards... so pleased to have been shortlisted. I have an outstanding team and absolutely couldn't have achieved what I have done without their hard work, expertise and support."
Congratulations on this recognition Rachel, and thank you for all you do.
