Dhanya Lathika

Congratulations to Dhanya Lathika, a nurse in West Wing Theatres at the John Radcliffe Hospital, who has become the first Theatres nurse at OUH to receive a DAISY Award.

Dhanya was nominated by a nursing colleague in recognition of her commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence and nursing leadership.

Her nomination highlighted the exceptional vigilance and dedication she demonstrated while caring for a patient during a night shift in Theatre Recovery.

Her nominator said: "Dhanya's actions exemplify the essence of nursing leadership. By standing firm in her clinical judgment and advocating for evidence-based practice, she not only ensured the immediate safety of the patient but also modelled the importance of effective communication and escalation within the healthcare team."

They also praised the example Dhanya sets for colleagues, particularly junior staff, and her commitment to maintaining high clinical standards and creating a culture where colleagues feel empowered to speak up for patient safety.

The nomination concluded: "Dhanya's dedication to patient safety and her role as a mentor and leader in the nursing community truly embody the spirit of the DAISY Award."

Dhanya's award was presented by Celina Eaves, Interim Deputy Chief Nurse.
