Dr Raman Uberoi, a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), has received international recognition for his outstanding contributions to interventional radiology, as well as his excellence in clinical practice, leadership and education.

He has been awarded the CIRSE (Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe) Gold Medal, the Society’s highest honour, presented annually to a single individual in recognition of exceptional impact on the specialty.

Interventional radiologists (IRs) are specialist doctors who use imaging guided, minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, often providing alternatives to traditional surgery that reduce risk, recovery time and hospital stay. At OUH, IR services play a crucial role in emergency care, cancer pathways and complex planned procedures across the Trust’s four hospitals.

A consultant for more than 30 years, Dr Uberoi has played a central role in shaping the development of interventional radiology locally, nationally and internationally.

He previously served as Clinical Director of Radiology at OUH for nearly a decade and is the Trust’s longest‑serving member of the Technologies Advisory Group (TAG), which is responsible for reviewing, approving, and overseeing the introduction of new clinical technologies and interventional procedures to ensure they are safe, effective and appropriately governed.

Alongside his clinical work, he has made extensive contributions to surgical and radiological education and has held senior leadership roles across multiple national and European bodies.

Dr Uberoi said: "This is a great honour, and I am delighted to have been recognised for my work in Interventional Radiology by CIRSE, the largest and most influential interventional society in the world."

His contributions to education, professional standards, and clinical innovation have been recognised through several previous awards, including the Graham Plant Professorship, the Gruntzig and Wattie Fletcher Lectureships, the Irish Interventional Radiology Medal, and the BSIR Gold Medal in 2023.

Rod Cameron, Interventional Radiology Modality Manager and Deputy Clinical Director for Radiology at OUH, said: "Congratulations to Dr Uberoi on this well‑deserved Gold Medal from CIRSE, recognising his outstanding contributions to interventional radiology.

"This honour reflects his professionalism and dedication over many years. His work has not only made a direct difference to the patients he treats but has also improved care for countless others through the knowledge, training and mentorship he has shared with colleagues.

"This award is an important acknowledgement of those achievements and of his wider impact on the specialty. As Interventional Radiology continues to grow in importance within patient care pathways, Dr Uberoi's contributions will have lasting benefits."

Professor Andrew Brent, Chief Medical Officer at OUH, said: "I am delighted that Dr Uberoi has won this prestigious award and would like to express my warm congratulations. This is a significant achievement that reflects his exceptional contribution to interventional radiology and the positive impact of his work on patient care, education and clinical leadership at OUH and beyond."
