YiPpEe - Young People's Executive

Follow us on Facebook at

Our Young People's Executive (known as YiPpEe for short), is a group of young people aged 11-18 years who work and meet with hospital staff.

YiPpEe helps us to understand what young people in hospital want and need.

YiPpEe meets several times a year, and in 2018-19, activities have included:

  • a fact-finding sleepover in Oxford Children's Hospital, following feedback from patients that the wards were noisy at night
  • making a video - Having an operation in Oxford Children's Hospital with YiPpEe - for young patients, to tell them what they can expect, and allay their fears
  • meeting with Youth Forums [@NHSYouthForum | #NHSYF] from across the country at the NHS Big Meet Up
  • taking part in Takeover Challenge, meeting senior staff to discuss how feedback can be collected
  • reviewing the Trust's patient leaflets, and looking at developing leaflets specifically for children
  • being involved in the 'Quality Conversations' event and helping to decide the Trust's priorities for 2019/20, and a focus group to choose the new Chair of the Board
  • working with children's nursing students at Oxford Brookes University.

We have worked with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, finding out how best to involve children and young people in creating policies and developing recruitment campaigns for childrens' doctors, alongside looking at the air quality inside hospital buildings.

Our plans for the future include:

  • giving feedback on new initiatives
  • trialling virtual reality headsets
  • discussions around same-sex accommodation and LGBTQ+ issues
  • updating our 'Promises' pictures
  • designing a new logo.

A member of YiPpEe sits on the OUH Council of Governors, and many YiPpEe members go on to further study and some have pursued careers in healthcare.
