Nurses are at the forefront of patient care and are ideally placed to identify what research needs to be carried out.
This project aims to establish the top ten research priorities for nurses at Oxford University Hospitals (OUH), through an inclusive process that involves nurses, patients and their carers.
We use a modified version of the James Lind Alliance (JLA) approach, which uses Priority Setting Partnerships (PSPs) involving clinicians, patients and carers to identify and prioritise the most important questions that could be answered by research.
Get involved
We are now progressing to the second stage of the OUH Nursing Research Priority Setting Partnership (PSP), which aims to identify the top ten research priorities at Oxford University Hospitals.
Thank you very much to all nurses, patients, and carers who completed our first survey.
Your insights have helped generate a longlist of important research questions based on real experiences of giving and receiving nursing care at OUH.
We have now launched Survey 2, which invites staff, patients and carers to review and vote on the questions identified in Phase 1.
Your input is essential to ensure that our final priorities reflect the needs of our diverse OUH community.
Have your say - Survey 2 is now open!

More about the project
The project consists of three main stages.
Phase 1: completed
- First survey collected views from OUH nurses, patients, and carers.
- Responses generated a 'longlist' of important, unanswered questions about nursing care at OUH.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to shaping this longlist.
Phase 2: now live
Survey 2 asks participants to review and vote on the questions identified in Phase 1.
This voting will help us understand which topics matter most across our community, including frequently under-served groups.
Please help us by sharing the survey widely.
Phase 3: final priority setting workshop (upcoming)
After Survey 2 closes, we will hold a workshop with nurses, patients, and carers.
This collaborative session will determine the final top ten research priorities for OUH.
The final list will guide future Trust research activity, inform funding applications, and support evidence based improvements in patient care.
