Isee Nyasha Chaitika

Isee Nyasha Chaitika, one of our staff nurses on the Haematology Ward at the Churchill Hospital, received a DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional compassionate care and the lasting impact it had on a patient with sickle cell disease, who is also a healthcare worker.
His nominator said: "Isee truly exemplifies excellence in care and compassion. As both a patient living with sickle cell disease and a nurse specialising in Haematology, I have encountered many healthcare professionals, but none compared to him.
"Sickle cell disease can often feel isolating, both physically and mentally. There have been countless moments where I have struggled with immense pain and the emotional toll that comes with it, yet Isee consistently found a way to bring light into those dark times.
"His presence alone could lift my spirits, but it was his unwavering dedication to my care that truly made a difference. He went beyond the clinical aspects of his job; he understood the emotional and psychological weight of my condition and took the time to acknowledge and address it.
"One particular instance that stands out was when I was in significant pain, and even in that difficult moment, Isee managed to make me smile. He worked with me to ensure I was comfortable and even motivated me to take small steps toward recovery, like encouraging me to go for a walk, which was a monumental step toward going home.
"His support didn't end when his shift did; he always checked in and made sure I knew I wasn't alone in my journey.
"As a nurse myself, I can only hope to be as empathetic, skilled, and dedicated as Isee. He has set the highest standard for what compassionate, patient-centred care should look like, and he has had a lasting impact on my life, both as a patient and as a healthcare professional."
Congratulations Isee, and thank you for all you do.
