Laura Warren

Laura Warren, one of our Staff Nurses on Surgical Emergency Unit (SEU) at the John Radcliffe Hospital, received a DAISY Award in recognition of the life-saving interventions and exceptional care she provided for a young patient who had complex post-operation care due to his additional needs.
Her nominator said: "The Physio team had raised concerns regarding this young man's respiratory status. When Laura was this patient's nurse, she worked rapidly to alert the physio team of an acute respiratory deterioration in the patient and supported the physio of the patient in the provision of acute respiratory care.
"She worked tirelessly throughout the day whilst looking after her other patients to ensure these concerns were escalated appropriately.
"The patient experienced a respiratory arrest during an airway clearance physio session. Laura was immediately present and stepped right in to support the physio team to stabilise the patient. She also co-ordinated with the resident doctors to escalate this patient to the consulting team, meaning the team had a direct review of the now stabilised patient.
"She immediately recognised that due to the nature of the stabilisation events that this young man's family had just witnessed, they would require support as well as her patient.
"Laura then stayed beyond her shift time to enable the accurate and seamless transfer and handover of this young man to the respiratory ward and nursing team where the most appropriate care could be provided for him.
"She was not only an exceptional nurse that day (and every day), but a source of comfort and huge support for her colleagues and the family of the young man concerned."
Congratulations Laura, and thank you for all you do.
