Laura Gosson, a Ward Sister from the Surgical Emergency Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, was nominated for a DAISY Award not only because of her exceptional leadership qualities, but also her compassion, especially during the pandemic.

Specifically, she redeployed her team in under 24 hours. She took this challenge heads-on and ensured her team had adequate support during the entire process.

In addition, she frequently comforted a patient with learning disabilities who was familiar within her unit but had been moved to another ward. She knew the patient's particular need and ensured she made his stay as comfortable as possible. She also made it a point of duty to bring the patient's favourite drink and snacks any time she visited.

The difference Laura makes to people's lives cannot be measured. She keeps putting smiles on people's faces and has been recognised for all the exceptional moments she has given both staff and patients.

Well done, Laura, and thank you for all that you do for our patients.
