Scrub Nurse Susan Cooney became the first person at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC) to be presented with a DAISY Award.

Susan, who is based in theatres, was recognised for how she looked after and cared for the loved ones of a patient who sadly passed away before the family could get to hospital.

Colleague Becky Easton, who made the nomination, described the situation as "tragic" but that she "observed what I can honestly say is the most compassionate nursing care I have seen in my career".

She added: "I will always remember this patient and the family – but I will also never forget Sue and the care I observed. I feel so proud to have her in our team at the NOC."

Sam Foster, our Chief Nursing Officer, surprised Susan with the award and thanked her for her exceptional care at a small and socially distanced event at the NOC.
