This article is more than two years old.

Farah Ashraf, a Nurse based on the Urology Ward at the Churchill Hospital, was nominated by a patient who was impressed with the outstanding care she delivered, as well as her leadership skills.

The patient wrote in their nomination: "Farah worked tirelessly with the utmost care and compassion. Her gentle and personable approach relaxes patients and family members alike. She works long hours - she left the ward at 10pm and was back at 7am the next day with a smile on her face."

They added: "I personally witnessed Farah passing her skills and experience on to a student Nurse. She took time to explain, ask the student Nurse questions to check her understanding, and engaged with a great open coaching style."

After hearing that Farah had won a DAISY Award, the patient wrote to her: "Many congratulations for being presented with a DAISY Award. This is truly deserved recognition for your dedication and loyalty to your profession.

"This last 15 months could not have been predicted but I know that you will have continued to care for patients with compassion, professionalism, and a great smile that will have relaxed the most nervous of people.

"Thank you for helping to start me on the road to recovery."
