International Nurses Day - thank you

This article is more than three years old.

As part of International Nurses Day on Tuesday 12 May 2020, we are pleased to share this message from Sam Foster, Chief Nursing Officer at the Trust.

Dear colleagues,

Today is International Nurses Day, an annual event to mark Florence Nightingale's birthday, and to celebrate our 6,000 magnificent nurses at the Trust.

As you know, due to the outbreak of a global pandemic, we are sadly unable to do this in person this year.

However, in this busy and unprecedented time, it is more important than ever to recognise your inspiring work as nurses, and to say thank you for your dedication - not just to your patients, but each other.

In the midst of COVID-19, nurses and support staff have worked together admirably to overcome challenges that healthcare workers have never had to deal with before.

In this time of crisis you have been ready to apply skill, knowledge, reassurance, and empathy to continue delivering compassionate care across all of our hospital sites and in the community.

As carers, educators, leaders, and advocates, nurses are fundamental in the provision of safe and accessible care, and I am so proud of how well you have adapted to these unknown and testing circumstances.

I joined with colleagues to record a video and say thank you to you all. This can be watched on the OUH YouTube channel.

If you're on social media please show us how you are celebrating International Nurses Day by using the hashtags #OneTeamOneOUH, #IND20, and #OUHIND.

We look forward to a time when we can properly reflect on the success of our nursing team, and celebrate the outstanding contribution you all make to patients and the Oxfordshire community.

Thank you for all your hard work.

Sam Foster
Chief Nursing Officer
