International Day of the Midwife - thank you

This article is more than four years old.

As part of International Day of the Midwife on Tuesday 5 May 2020, we are pleased to share this message from Sam Foster, Chief Nursing Officer, and Ali Cuthbertson, Director of Midwifery, at the Trust.

Dear Colleagues,

Today is International Day of the Midwife, and this annual event is an opportunity for us to unite and recognise all the amazing work our incredible midwives do on a daily basis across the Trust.

As you know due to the outbreak of a global pandemic, we are sadly unable to do that in person this year.

In the midst of COVID-19, midwives have risen to this extraordinary challenge to support one another in the fight to protect women and babies - and we wanted to say thank you.

While the times are tough, the overwhelming solidarity that has sprung from our maternity teams at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Horton General Hospital and those in community settings, is inspiring.

We joined with colleagues to record a video and say thank you to you all, and this can be watched on the OUH YouTube channel.

Staff have been pulling together fantastically to provide excellent care. Every midwife at the Trust should feel proud that they help women and their families through what is, for most, one of the greatest and most important moments in their lives.

If you're on social media please show us how you are celebrating by using the hashtags #OneTeamOneOUH, #IDM2020 and #Midwives2020.

We look forward to a time when we can reflect on our success and celebrate the wonderful contribution you all make to the Oxfordshire community.

Thank you for all your hard work.
