Education at Katharine House Hospice

This is information about education at Katharine House Hospice. For fundraising, visit Katharine House Hospice Charity.

Katharine House Hospice offers a range of educational opportunities including short courses, placements and visits, for doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, care assistants and students.

We also run training sessions for our staff and volunteers.

We work with colleagues across the county through the Oxfordshire Palliative Care Education Group (OPEG) and with national hospice and palliative care networks to raise awareness of the work we do and to build skills in the area.

Nursing placements

We offer:

  • 24-day placements funded by Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (OCCG)
  • pre-registration placements for student nurses at Oxford Brookes University
  • individually-requested opportunities.

External courses

Sage and Thyme communication skills training - Foundation Level

This workshop focuses on communication skills in difficult situations, enabling patients and carers who are worried or distressed to become empowered.

The course is run by OPEG, across a wide range of venues on various dates throughout the year. Training materials are provided and refreshments and parking is available at most venues.

There is a charge of £35 for this workshop.

Bespoke education

We can tailor programmes to meet the unique palliative care needs of any discipline or any health or social care providers.

This includes seminars and courses, as well as placements for Social Work and Ministry students.

Talks can also be arranged for local public and business groups who wish to understand more about the work of the hospice.
