In some areas in the UK and abroad, patients on DMARDs (e.g. methotrexate and leflunomide) have been receiving live vaccines. Evidence from these trials has shown them to be both safe and effective. This has now resulted in a change in the national guidelines recommending that patients on DMARDs should receive all routine vaccinations, including live vaccines. Patients on biologics (e.g. Enbrel, Humira, Infliximab) should continue to avoid live vaccines. For further information see our vaccination advice section or contact us.
