Training / education

Oxford NHS GMC is dedicated to facilitating and delivering training for healthcare professionals to support the 100,000 Genomes Project and to ensure NHS staff have the knowledge, skills, and experience to keep this country a world leader in genomic and precision medicine.

We are running a programme of training events throughout the year aimed at different professional groups which NHS staff can attend. We are also able to offer bespoke training on request, either on a one-to-one basis or for small groups. If you or your team has particular training needs, please email to arrange an informal discussion.

We are also working with Health Education England to deliver their Genomics Education Programme (GEP) at local level.

The GEP uses a three-pronged approach:

  • directly supporting those professionals involved in the 100,000 Genomes Project and Microbial Genomes work
  • supporting the wider transformation of services to integrate genomic technologies into healthcare
  • upskilling existing staff so they can make the most of genomic technologies in their work.

The GEP offers a variety of free online courses, guides and factsheets covering genomics, bioinformatics and consent are available, with time input ranging from just an hour for a single online module to full or part-time Genomic Medicine Master's Degree places.

Why not start with 'An introduction to Genomics'? This is a one-and-a-half hour online course in which you'll learn about the fundamentals of genomics and discover its growing importance for healthcare.
