Training / education

Oxford NHS GMC is dedicated to facilitating and delivering training for healthcare professionals to support the mainstreaming of genomics and to ensure NHS staff have the knowledge, skills, and experience to keep this country a world leader in genomic and precision medicine.

We aim to run a programme of training events throughout the year aimed at different professional groups within the NHS.

We may be able to offer bespoke training on request, either on a one-to-one basis or for small groups. If you or your team has particular training needs, please contact us to arrange an informal discussion.

We are also working with Health Education England to deliver their Genomics Education Programme (GEP) at local level.

This is an expanding repository of excellent educational resources aiming to underpin the workforce transformation needed to mainstream genomics across the NHS.

The GEP uses a three-pronged approach:

  • directly supporting NHS professionals involved in the genomics through the 100,000 Genomes Project, the new genomic medicine service, other national initiatives;
  • supporting the wider transformation of services to integrate genomic technologies into healthcare;
  • upskilling existing staff so they can make the most of genomic technologies in their work.

The GEP offers a variety of free online courses, practical guides, and factsheets covering all aspects of clinical genomics. Time input ranges from just a few minutes for a single online course to full or part-time Genomic Medicine Master's Degree places.

If you are just starting out, then try the 'bitesize genomics' courses which deliver key information in tiny packages, or one of several 'Genomics 101' courses, designed to provide the fundamentals of genomics in just 30-40 minutes.
