Professor Derick Wade retired on the 30 September 2016.

There are a further six doctors training in rehabilitation medicine within the local deanery area. of which between two and four are usually based within OCE being trained in various aspects of rehabilitation medicine. There is also a senior house officer (SHO), usually a doctor on the general practitioner training rotation. There is a fourth consultant post (currently not filled) within the Trust, based within the Department of specialist surgery and relating to the major trauma centre.

OCE has an important role in training doctors in rehabilitation medicine and all of the trainees within the deanery will spend more than half of their time here. They will be primarily involved with the inpatients but will also be involved with the prosthetics department and will gain experience in all of the other departments. Furthermore they will spend time with the major trauma centre consultant, when there is one in post. OCE is also lucky enough to have a doctor training in general practice.
