OUH achieves Gold for Armed Forces support

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) has achieved Gold status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), recognising the Trust’s outstanding support for the Armed Forces community.

OUH is one of eight healthcare organisations and 162 organisations across the UK to receive Gold status this year.

Terry Roberts, OUH Chief People Officer, attended the Gold Employer Recognition Scheme awards ceremony to receive the award on behalf of the Trust, marking a significant milestone in the Trust's ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Gold Award is the highest level of recognition under the ERS and celebrates employers that demonstrate exceptional, sustained support for reservists, veterans, cadet force adult volunteers, service leavers, military spouses, and military families.

Over the past year, OUH has further strengthened this commitment by establishing an Armed Forces Working Group, led by the Resourcing team which brings together colleagues from across the Trust who are part of, or connected to, the Armed Forces community. The group has improved communication, raised awareness, and enhanced the support available to staff seeking guidance on the Armed Forces Covenant and related commitments.

The Trust has also continued to promote employment opportunities through the Step into Health programme, helping members of the Armed Forces community access rewarding careers within OUH. In addition, OUH has developed links with a local cadet centre to strengthen engagement with the wider Armed Forces community.

Writing to the Trust, Elizabeth Howe, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire and President of the South East Reserve Forces' and Cadets’ Association (SERFCA), said:

This vital partnership between Defence and employers is mutually beneficial, enriching workplaces with skills, resilience and experience.

"Your achievement also sets a powerful example for others progressing through the ERS. By reaching Gold, you demonstrate what is possible when commitment is matched with action, and you help to inspire a growing community of employers who recognise the value of Defence engagement.”
