NHS England Chief Executive Officer visits OUH
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) welcomed Sir Jim Mackey, Chief Executive Officer at NHS England, to the Trust on Monday 17 August.
He met with members of the Trust Board and clinical staff to visit the new Surgical Elective Centre (SEC), as well as see progress on the new Urgent and Emergency Care project, and the maternity department at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Professor Meghana Pandit (OUH Chief Executive Officer), Jason Dorsett (Chief Finance Officer), and Sir Andrew Morris (Trust Chair) spoke to Sir Jim about the innovative developments at OUH to significantly reduce waiting times for planned procedures, as well as plans to deliver improved urgent and emergency care.
He also had the opportunity to speak to clinical staff in detail about these developments, and meet with staff in the maternity department.
Professor Meghana Pandit said: "We are all really very pleased to show Sir Jim some of the excellent work we are doing at the Trust to reduce waiting times and enhance the level of care we provide our patients.
"We are keen to explore every opportunity to see more patients, more quickly and reduce the time they are waiting for treatment. As always, I am grateful to my OUH colleagues who are working on these improvements. It was a privilege to be able to show Sir Jim our plans.
“Our maternity team has made significant progress in implementing new pathways and improving the experience for our birthing women and their families. We are committed to delivering the maternity actions in the 10-point plan.”
Sir Jim Mackey said: “It was very interesting to speak to OUH colleagues about the improvements they are making into both urgent and emergency care, as well as routine procedures, and reducing waiting times.
“The NHS as a whole is committed to reducing waiting lists and ensuring that urgent and emergency care performance standards continue to improve. The projects I have witnessed here at OUH are certainly significant steps to achieving this."
He added: “It was also helpful to speak with maternity colleagues about the actions being taken to improve experiences for patients and their families. Maternity services are very much a focus nationally so it was useful to understand the local actions at OUH.”
