2025 British Transplant Games: Well done, Team Oxford

Congratulations to Transplant Team Oxford, who have returned from the 2025 British Transplant Games with smiles, medals, and a record-breaking presence, proudly representing Oxford University Hospitals (OUH)as the largest team at the event.
This year, Team Oxford featured an impressive 101 adult competitors – all recipients of transplants at the Oxford Transplant Centre – alongside 14 live donors and a dedicated group of supporters, bringing the total team size to 158. This marks a remarkable increase from 44 members last year.
The team’s performance was equally outstanding, returning with a total of 62 medals – the highest medal count in the team’s history. Among the standout achievements was the swim relay team’s silver medal win, their first in this event in a decade.
A highlight of the weekend was the donor run, which saw over 2,000 participants come together to honour donors and raise awareness of organ donation. The event was a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of transplantation.
The British Transplant Games, organised by the charity Transplant Sport, welcomed its largest ever number of transplant recipient competitors, with teams from across the UK coming together to celebrate life and promote the importance of organ donation.
Paul Harden, Renal and Transplant Consultant, said: "Team Oxford are true ambassadors for the Oxford Transplant Centre and the care provided by Oxford University Hospitals. Each competitor's journey is a testament to the transformative power of transplantation.
"For the first time in its history, Oxford played host to the Games, held from Thursday 31 July to Sunday 3 August across venues in Oxfordshire, including the iconic Blenheim Palace. The city’s outstanding facilities provided a fitting backdrop to what proved to be a truly memorable celebration of life and organ donation."
Team Oxford's manager Daley Cross, one of our Youth Workers in the Transplant team, said: "I want to say a huge well done to all our competitors this year – you made Oxford proud, but most importantly, your donors even prouder. Hosting the Games was a special honour, and we hope its legacy will continue to raise awareness of organ donation across Oxfordshire."
