Meet some of your OUH Staff Recognition Awards 2025 finalists

Congratulations to all teams, individual members of staff, volunteers and fundraisers who were nominated for the OUH Staff Recognition Awards 2025, and thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate.

In total, we received more than 1,500 nominations for this year's awards, which will be held at Oxford Town Hall on Friday 6 June 2025.

Ahead of the awards, we wanted to introduce you to some of our finalists. Good luck to them and all of the well-deserving nominees ahead of the event.

Award for Compassion

Julio Zaknic, Senior Healthcare Assistant

Julio is a Senior Healthcare Assistant in the John Radcliffe Hospital's Surgical Emergency Unit (SEU E), a specialised unit designed to provide urgent assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

His nomination read: "Julio's unwavering compassion, ability to recognise individual needs, and dedication to seeing things from the patients' perspective make him truly deserving of this recognition. The entire team is incredibly proud of his dedication and the profound difference he continues to make in the lives of our patients."

Julio said: "I am truly honoured to be nominated for the Award for Compassion. This recognition reflects not only my dedication but also the incredible support and teamwork that surrounds me every day.

"I am deeply grateful to my colleagues and the entire team for fostering an environment where compassion is at the heart of everything we do. Knowing that my efforts make a difference in patients' lives is the greatest reward of all."

Award for Delivery

Chris Caley, Cyber Security Analyst

As the dedicated Cyber Security Analyst within the IT Infrastructure team, Chris plays a vital role in safeguarding the Trust's Digital systems and networks against cyber threats.

His nomination recognises his dedication and expertise in cybersecurity and developing robust measures to safeguard the organisation's digital infrastructure.

His nomination read: "Chris's technical expertise, proactive approach, and commitment to fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness have made a significant difference. His dedication and hard work have ensured the safety and security of our digital infrastructure, making him an invaluable asset to our organisation."

Chris said: "I am honoured to have been nominated for the Staff Recognition Award and am grateful for the recognition of my efforts. Thank you to all colleagues across the organisation who have supported me in carrying out my role."

Award for Excellence

Voluntary Services

Volunteers are an essential part of OUH, providing support to our patients and workforce in every area of the Trust, and the commitment they make is greatly appreciated.

From greeting patients and visitors to gardening, and ward volunteering to supporting book stalls, there are many ways our more than 300 volunteers make a difference.

Their nomination read: "Excellence is not just about meeting expectations - it's about surpassing them. Voluntary Services exemplify this by fostering a culture where volunteers feel not only welcomed but also deeply valued, empowered and engaged. They lead with empathy, professionalism and a tireless dedication to ensuring volunteers receive the guidance, support and appreciation they deserve."

Bridget Daly, Voluntary Services Manager, said: "I really appreciate this recognition - it means a lot to be acknowledged, and I'm lucky to work with such a supportive and dedicated team."

Awards for Respect

Marie Bloxham, Nursing Assistant

Based on the Laburnham Ward, Nursing Assistant Marie cares for older patients at the Horton General Hospital.

Her nomination read: "Marie embodies everything this recognition stands for - treating both patients and colleagues with kindness, dignity and unwavering professionalism.

"She takes the time to truly listen to her patients, ensuring that they feel heard and valued. She always puts patient dignity at the forefront, her positivity is contagious, and her work ethic inspires those around her to strive for excellence."

Marie said: "I am truly honoured to be considered for our annual OUH staff recognition. The kind words of support mean a great deal to me, and I appreciate the confidence shown in my work.

"Being recognised among such hardworking colleagues is incredibly rewarding and motivates me to continue striving for excellence in all that we do."
