Hugo Sanguinho, Nurse on the Urology Ward at the Churchill Hospital, received his DAISY award on 17 October 2018.

Hugo said "I never thought that I would be nominated for this award because in Oxford we have a huge number of nurses, with different backgrounds, different experience, but when I saw the DAISY award banner in Urology Triage, I was speechless.

"It is not every day that something beautiful happens. I couldn't be more delighted and honoured."

Hugo was nominated by an anonymous patient who said "Hugo showed extraordinary empathy and compassion towards me during my recent nine day stay in the Urology Ward.

"Hugo was unfailingly helpful and cheered and supported me during several periods of despair when my kidney and urinary functions were away.

"[He is] a truly wonderful warm man who also clearly has an excellent knowledge and experience of his profession of nursing."
