Osler Chest Ward now open at the John Radcliffe Hospital

24/03/2016
This article is more than eight years old.

At the end of February 2016 the Respiratory inpatient ward moved from Geoffrey Harris Ward at the Churchill Hospital to Ward 7E on Level 7 of the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The new ward is called the Osler Chest Ward; telephone numbers for the ward will remain the same as those for the former Geoffrey Harris Ward.

Ward: 01865 857 294

To speak to patients: 01865 225 732

The new ward has been redesigned specifically for the needs of respiratory patients, and will improve their respiratory care 'pathway' - reducing the need for patients to travel between hospital sites by ambulance.

Respiratory outpatients and day cases will continue to have their appointments at the Churchill Hospital.

Cystic Fibrosis patients will also benefit from the opening of the new Oxford Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre at the John Radcliffe, which is due to happen in March/April 2016.

The Centre will be on Ward 5D, Level 5 of the main hospital building, and inpatients, day cases and outpatients will receive care there.

Maxine Hardinge, Respiratory Consultant and Clinical Lead, said:

"This move is the culmination of a relocation project which has been several years in the making, and I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work in making it happen.

"The respiratory ward joins our bronchoscopy and pleural procedures unit on the JR site, and we can already see the benefits for patients’ care in being there.

"We look forward to working with other medical teams on the JR site, and are planning to move our educational meetings to the JR site in the near future."
