Our Quality Priorities - Trust community gathers for a conversation

This article is more than one year old.

Partners and stakeholders of Oxford University Hospitals gathered at the John Radcliffe Hospital on Monday 23 January 2023 for a Quality Conversation Event - a chance to meet with 2022-23 Quality Priority Leaders at a Quality Priority Showcase, hear an update on the progress made by the Trust on our Quality Priorities over the last year, and influence our choice of Quality Priorities for the next.

The Trust has a Quality Strategy aimed at building high quality healthcare based on national and international comparisons and to improve our performance in three key domains:

  • Patient Safety
  • Patient Experience
  • Clinical Effectiveness and Outcomes

Our vision for quality is to be:

"Recognised as one of the UK's highest quality healthcare providers. All our clinical services will provide high quality healthcare; some will provide care that is internationally outstanding."

Each year the OUH Clinical Governance and Patient Experience teams oversee an event - thankfully now possible again after the recent years of pandemic - where members of our staff and our community, our Public Governors, Foundation Trust members and Board members gather to find out from our staff what issues they feel deserve more attention we face an uncertain future, and help to decide, jointly, what our focus should be.

Staff presented posters detailing the Quality Priorities that have been our focus for the past year, including topics such as pressure ulcers, insulin safety and reducing the use of opioids, and Children's Patient Experience Manager Vivienne Lee was on hand with a brightly coloured poster to explain the importance of maintaining quality care for young people moving from child-centred health services to services designed for adult patients.

Safeguarding and Patient Services Manager Caroline Heason said: "This is an opportunity for members of the public and clinical staff to discuss what is important to them in terms of patient safety and patient experience, so we can plan our priorities together."

Head of Clinical Governance Helen Cobb added: "It is our chance to engage with our internal and external stakeholders to ensure we are focusing on the most vital issues for our patient population."
