Professor Richard Haynes, OUH Renal Consultant and coordinator of the COVID RECOVERY Trial, has been appointed MBE for services to Global Health.
Dr Bruno Holthof, Chief Executive Officer of Oxford University Hospitals said: "It is great to see that Professor Haynes' work on the RECOVERY Trial is being recognised in this way. We are very proud of the research work that has been done in our hospitals that had an impact around the world. My congratulations to Richard!"
Dr Sanjay Sinha, Clinical Director for Renal, Transplant and Urology at the Trust, said: "I am delighted that Richard's work has been recognised in this way. We know the huge impact that COVID and the fear of COVID has had on the lives of our patients. The RECOVERY Trial is part of a story of hope."
Professor Haynes said: "I am excited, flattered and embarrassed to receive this honour. I am only receiving this because of the incredible efforts of my friends and colleagues in the RECOVERY team and wider university. I dedicate it to them, and to all our collaborators at hospitals in the NHS and around the world who have given themselves to this effort.
"COVID-19 has brought out the best in health services staff everywhere and I am very proud to be a small part of that. Above all, I would like to thank all of our participants who so bravely took the decision to participate in such difficult circumstances without whose contribution RECOVERY could not succeed."
Dr Rustam Rea, Clinical Director of Specialist Medicine, said: "I am delighted that Richard's work has been recognised in this way. The RECOVERY Trial has been transformative in our ability to treat people with COVID-19 and help our patients to recover more quickly from this infection."
