Mr Radu Mihai, OUH Consultant in Endocrine Surgery and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer from the Blenheim Head and Neck Centre at the Churchill Hospital, has been elected President of the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS).

His election was announced on Friday 9 October during the annual (virtual) BAETS meeting.

Until October 2021 Mr Mihai will be 'President Elect', shadowing the current President, Mr Jeremy Davies. From October 2021 he will be the President for two years.

Mr Mihai says:

"This is a massive event for me... personally I have always felt so welcomed in this society and encouraged and supported by its senior members.

"I am extremely grateful for the confidence shown in me and I am excited by the challenges and responsibility in the coming three years."

Oxford has always had a prominent position in BAETS.  Both Mr Mihai's predecessors in Oxford were Presidents: Mr Nick Dudley (1997-1999) and Mr Greg Sadler (2017-2019).

Currently Oxford has the largest endocrine surgery workload in the UK, with Mr Mihai and his colleague Shahab (Shad) Khan performing some 400-500 endocrine operations each year between them.

Shad Khan (also a Governor of Oxford University Hospitals) says, of Mr Mihai's election:

"Truly momentous - very few people are granted such an accolade. Incredible for you, the department and the Trust."

We would like to add our congratulations to Mr Mihai, and our best wishes for a successful term as President of BAETS.
