Volunteers for the Trust, the JR League of Friends and Oxford Hospitals Charity joined plant experts from Notcutts Oxford to transform an outdoor space outside Oxford Heart Centre on the John Radcliffe Hospital site.

The courtyard outside the Heart Centre is now filled with colourful shrubs, flowers and trees, providing a peaceful garden oasis for hospital patients, staff and visitors to enjoy.

The project was led by Sue Henstridge, a hospital volunteer, with the support of Sam Mallett of Notcutts Oxford, who donated her spare time and expertise to help with tidying and replanting the garden.

Grants were given by the JR League of Friends and Oxford Hospitals Charity to replace the garden furniture, and numerous Notcutts suppliers donated plants towards the project free of charge.

Sue Henstridge, OUH volunteer, said "We are so grateful for the support of Notcutts, the League of Friends and Oxford Hospitals Charity in helping us create such a beautiful garden. It is fantastic to see patients and the hospital’s hardworking staff enjoy the space, which helps makes their time in hospital the best it can be."

Jonathan Tew, General Manager at Notcutts Oxford, said: "We are incredibly proud to have been a part of this garden makeover at our local hospital and it is wonderful that Sam volunteered her time to help make this special community project a reality, together with Sue Henstridge, the League of Friends and Oxford Hospitals Charity.

"Also, a big thank you to our suppliers for donating plants which have helped to fill the courtyard with fresh colour.

"Spending time in the garden has so many benefits for physical and mental health and wellbeing, so it has been great to transform this outdoor space that I’m sure will be enjoyed by all at the hospital."
