Opening hours

The Laboratory is open 24/7 365 days a year.

Core opening hours are 8.00am - 4.00pm

Late shift 2.00pm - 10.00pm

Night shift 10.00pm - 8.30am

How to find us

Microbiology is on Levels 6 and 7 of the John Radcliffe Hospital.

From the main entrance on Level 2 of the John Radcliffe Hospital, walk down the corridor and take the central lifts to Level 6 or 7.

On leaving the lift look for the Microbiology sign (on the corridor that has no wards).

Walk to the end of this corridor, where there is a hatch.

Someone will assist you.

Information for GPs

Oxfordshire GPs can contact the Microbiology medical staff for clinical advice.


Please include the following information as appropriate (please note confidential patient information should only be sent from accounts).

  • Patient's name
  • Patient's date of birth
  • Microbiology report number
  • Which Microbiology specialty advice/guidance is required
  • Comment
  • Your contact details (please include a direct telephone number)

Complaints procedure

We are always looking for opportunities to improve and update our service, and to learn from experience.

All issues are logged and investigated by a senior member of laboratory staff in order to improve our processes in future.
