Wingfield League
The Wingfield League was formally disbanded following its Annual General Meeting on 26 April, 2014.
In 1955 Matron, Miss Mary Powell proposed the formation of a League for nurses and past members of staff as a way to maintain and strengthen bonds of friendship formed by those who had trained and worked at the Wingfield Morris Orthopaedic Hospital, later renamed the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
Many members joined the League after training in the late 1940s and 50s. However, by the late 90s it was clear that membership was steadily declining and in 2011 the Executive Committee of the League took the decision to have a planned closure of the League with a celebration of nearly 60 years.
The final Reunion will take place at the Annual General Meeting (details above) with a special lunch, guest speaker and celebration cake.
All material held by the League will be placed in the Oxfordshire Health Archives and will be made available for research purposes.
To enable members to stay in touch, a Directory of all present members will be prepared and a short History of the League will be produced.
The Executive Committee have recognised the need for there to be a point of contact for enquiries after April 2014 and it has been agreed that the present Honorary Secretary will be available until April 2016.
All enquiries until April 2016 should be addressed to Jenny Booth at jenny_booth20000@yahoo.co.uk. Alternatively, call Jenny on 07860129483.
