New phlebotomy service now live at Horton General Hospital

04/12/2023

A new Phlebotomy Service that offers routine blood tests at the Horton General Hospital is now live.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) has fully converted a bus, complete with phlebotomy (blood test) equipment.

Blood tests are available for patients registered with a GP in Oxfordshire, or those under the care of OUH.

Appointments available on the bus include:

  • routine blood test appointments for patients over 16 years old
  • patients urgently referred for blood tests by their GP
  • patients who have had a virtual appointment and now require a blood test.

If patients would like to have their blood test at the Phlebotomy Bus rather than in hospital, they can book their appointment via DrDoctor.

David Walliker, Chief Digital and Partnership Officer at OUH, said: "This is great news for our phlebotomy patients. The bus is fully equipped with all the equipment needed for the appointments and will help us reduce waiting times for this type of treatment."
