Record breaking week for Oxfordshire vaccinations

It has been a record week for COVID jabs in Oxfordshire, with more being done in a week than at any time since the start of the vaccination programme.

More than 75,500 booster jabs have been administered across the county since the rapid expansion of  booster jabs last week, with more than 41,000 vaccines delivered during Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In Oxfordshire, we continue to expand capacity as we work to deliver booster vaccines to all eligible adults (more than 225,000) before the end of December.  More sites are opening over the coming week with extended opening hours and walk-in opportunities, as volunteers and NHS and local authority staff are redeployed to support this effort.

The NHS is encouraging anyone eligible to get their booster as soon as possible. There are plenty of slots available on the National Booking Service and GP-led vaccination services are inviting patients to book an appointment directly. There are also walk-in opportunities which are being advertised locally.  People can also bring forward a booked appointment after Christmas to this week if they go onto the National Booking Service.

Appointments are also available for people who have not yet been vaccinated; over the weekend 849 people received a first dose and more than 1,000 received a second dose.

Julie Dandridge, Head of Primary Care and Lead for the Vaccine Programme at NHS Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said:

"Getting vaccinated and boosted remains the best thing you can do to protect yourself and your families against getting seriously ill from Covid-19.

"If you're unvaccinated it is never too late to come forward for a vaccine - all vaccination sites will welcome you.

"I want to thank people in Oxfordshire who have turned up for their booster jab and all those staff and volunteers who are supporting this vaccine effort."

Daily updates on walk-in clinics are on the Oxfordshire CCG website.
