Heart rhythm management

Heart rhythm management clinics specialise in conditions that affect the heart rhythm. Patients are referred by their GP or by a cardiologist from another hospital.

In most cases the department offers a 'one stop' service. This means that tests such as echocardiography, a procedure that uses ultrasound to study the structure and motions of the heart, electrocardiography, a technique for investigating the electrical activity of the heart, and exercise testing are performed on the same day; patients can also discuss the results with a member of the cardiac rhythm management team without the need for a follow-up appointment.

Patients who need a day case coronary angiography appointment and assessment can have these with one of the cardiac nurses during the same visit.

The clinic is supported by the Arrhythmia Nurse Specialists.
