Anaesthesia for Interventional Radiology

Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) is a world renowned centre of clinical excellence and one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK. The Trust is made up of three hospitals in Oxford - the John Radcliffe Hospital (which includes the Children's Hospital, West Wing, Eye Hospital, Heart Centre and Women's Centre), the Churchill Hospital, and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. The Nuffield Department of Anaesthesia consists of over 120 Consultant anaesthetists and up to 60 trainees.

Oxford Thermal Ablation Service

OUH is proud to provide the Oxford Thermal Ablation Service which is considered one of the global leaders in this field, particularly notable for having optimized a High-frequency Jet Ventilation (HFJV) virtual-immobilization technique which is employed for Microwave and Cryo-ablation, as well some focused-ultrasound therapies (eg HIFU). In conjunction with Oxford University and NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, our HIFU Service has established an innovative thermosensitive liposomal-chemotherapy for targeted local delivery (liver, pancreatic cancer – TARDOX, PANDOX), utilising HFJV-GA immobilization.
