As a Foundation Trust, we have a Council of Governors which is composed of governors elected by public and staff members as well as appointed representatives from local organisations that we work with.

The Trust is accountable through our membership and Council of Governors to our local communities.

The Council of Governors is chaired by the Trust's Chairman and comprises:

  • 15 Public governors (elected by the public members)
  • six Staff governors (elected by the staff members)
  • eight Stakeholder governors (appointed by stakeholder organisations).

The governors play a valuable role by holding our Non-executive Directors to account, ensuring that the interests of the Trust's members are taken into account and helping to shape our plans for the future.

Oxford University Hospitals' Council of Governors was set up with an election cycle of alternate years so that not all the governors are up for election at once. This is to maintain some continuity and experience on the Council.

Ballot papers will be sent to members who are eligible to vote on Monday 20 August 2018 to enable voting to commence.

In order to participate in the election as a candidate or voter you must be a member of the Trust on or before the closing date for the receipt of nominations, which was Wednesday 18 July 2018.

The ballot will close at 5.00pm on Thursday 13 September 2018 and the declaration of result will be advertised here by the end of the day on Friday 14 September 2018.

Election process

Elections are conducted independently of the Trust by a company with expertise in running local government elections and elections for other Foundation Trusts.

Once they are elected the newly elected governors will take part in an induction programme which will include information about their role, learning from the experience of other governors, and clarity about their responsibilities and those which are exercised by the Board of Directors.
