Laboratory Co-location 2025

Oxford Molecular Haematology Laboratory service is co-locating with the Genetics Laboratory at the Churchill Hospital.

We have been working towards a co-location of the Oxford Molecular Haematology Laboratory (OMHL) with the Oxford Regional Genetics Laboratory (ORGL) on the Churchill Hospital site for some time.

We are now able to announce this move will take place on Monday 19 May 2025.

This single site model, which brings together all elements of the laboratory genetic and genomic testing services in Oxford University Hospitals, has many advantages, in particular increasing service resilience and efficiency.

All elements of the Molecular Haematology Laboratory Service, including laboratory equipment and staff, will move to the Oxford Genetics Laboratories on the Churchill Hospital site.

Packing of laboratory and office items will commence on Friday 16 May. Professional carriers will undertake transportation on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 May.

Test results

In order to accommodate a period of packing and movement of equipment, there will be a limited service for the three days of Friday 16 May, Monday 19 May and Tuesday 20 May.

Plans are in place to retain urgent service provision throughout this period. We do not currently anticipate any significant delays for routine results, however, anything arising from unforeseen complexities will be communicated to users as appropriate.

Sending samples

On Monday 19 May, all elements of the Molecular Haematology Laboratory Service will move to the Genetics Laboratory on the Churchill Hospital site.

Samples and request forms for molecular haematology tests should be directed to the Churchill Hospital site from w/c 12 May.

All tests requested through EPR from w/c 12 May will be routed directly to the Churchill address:

Oxford Genetics Laboratories
Churchill Hospital
Old Road
Oxford OX3 7LE

If haemoglobinopathy genetic testing is required and haemoglobinopathy screening has not yet been carried out, please send an EDTA blood sample to the Haematology Laboratory at the John Radcliffe Hospital (address below).

Once the haematology tests are complete, the sample will be transferred to the Churchill for genetic testing.

Immunophenotyping are not part of the move and samples for them should continue to be sent to the Haematology Laboratory at the John Radcliffe Hospital:

Oxford Haematology Laboratory
Level 4, John Radcliffe Hospital
Oxford OX3 9DU

All laboratory documentation will be updated with appropriate address and sample routing information.

Test request forms with updated addresses are already available at:

Request forms - Oxford Genetics Laboratories - Oxford University Hospitals

EPR collection class will also be updated to provide the correct address.

If the sample is delivered to the wrong hospital there are transport mechanisms in place to re-route samples as appropriate.

Contact

There will be telephone and email access throughout this period.

If you are struggling to contact a member of the team, please call the general laboratory numbers and we can direct you further.

Tel: 01865 226001 / 01865 572769

Email addresses will also remain the same, e.g.
