PRPP Assessment Course 2019

Perceive, Recall, Plan, Perform (PRPP) System of Task Analysis – PRPP Assessment Course

7-11 June 2019
Oxford Centre for Enablement

Presenters: Dr Chris Chapparo DipOT, MA, PhD and Dr Judy Ranka BSc(OT), MA, HlthScD

The Perceive, Recall, Plan, Perform (PRPP) Assessment is part of the PRPP System of Task Analysis - a dynamic system of assessment and intervention. The PRPP Assessment is a standardised, person-centred, criterion referenced, occupational therapy assessment of occupational performance.

The Perceive, Recall, Plan, Perform System of Task Analysis (pdf, 1 MB)

It is used with clients of any age, gender, diagnosis or cultural background whose performance is compromised by difficulties with the cognitive demands of occupations.

The assessment yields information about performance mastery and cognitive strategy application capacity.

Based on this the Occupational Therapist is able to:

  • write specific, measurable occupational performance mastery and strategy application goals for clients assessed
  • use the PRPP Assessment as a person-specific occupational performance outcome measurebegin to use assessment findings to determine a focus for occupational therapy intervention.

It has established validity in a variety of practice domains including:

  • neurology
  • mental health
  • learning disabilities
  • autism
  • chronic pain
  • HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders
  • dementia.

Acceptable reliability has been demonstrated following training.

The PRPP system has been developed in association with the Occupational Performance Model (Australia).

Comment from previous participant

"Using PRPP to assess performance across a range of tasks enables me to provide an objective analysis of a client’s main difficulties, and to more effectively target subsequent interventions. It has particular utility for understanding the difficulties of clients who are unable to participate in conventional standardised assessments. I really value its flexibility and person-centred, holistic approach. It can be applied to any task or occupation that the person happens to engage in. Although it describes itself as primarily assessing cognitive strategy application, the sensory and motor components of task performance are also addressed."
