Please remember to buy any over-the-counter medicines you may need to treat a range of minor common illnesses and ailments such as coughs, colds, headaches, heartburn and indigestion.

NHS guidance for GPs advises that they do not prescribe medicines that patients can buy over-the-counter.

Prepare and plan ahead to treat any minor common conditions and stay well this winter.

  • Keep a well-stocked medicine cabinet at home - out of reach of children and pets.
  • Ask your local Pharmacist, or use the NHS Pharmacy First Service, for advice on managing short-term illnesses and minor conditions.

You can see a Pharmacist without an appointment, and many Pharmacies open late and at weekends. They will tell you if you do need to see your GP.
