There are 16 IBPS centres across the UK. Most people are seen within their local service, although you may choose to access support in another area if you prefer.

Support is provided by clinicians who understand the history of the contaminated blood scandal and the complex impact it has had on individuals and families.

The service is free and appointments can take place:

  • in person
  • by telephone
  • via video call.

How to refer

You can refer yourself to the service and/or make a referral on behalf of someone else, with their consent.

With your agreement, professionals involved in your care, such as your GP, healthcare provider or support worker, can also make a referral.

What to expect

After receiving your referral, a member of the team will contact you to arrange an initial appointment. We aim to offer appointments within 14 days where possible.

The first appointment is an opportunity to discuss your experiences and the support you may need. If ongoing psychological support would be helpful, we will agree a plan for further sessions with you.

The team can also help connect you with additional support services, including:

  • benefits advice 
  • housing support
  • employment guidance 
  • financial advice.

There may also be opportunities to connect with others who have had similar experiences.

IBPS is a routine service and does not provide emergency or crisis support.

If you need urgent mental health assistance:
